DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) The Danville Fire Department is responding to multiple evacuation calls, according to Arnold Hendrix, a spokesperson for the City of Danville.

Hendrix says the emergency communications center is overwhelmed with calls. Everyone in the area is advised to not call 9-1-1 unless they have an emergency.

Anyone with a power outage is asked to call Danville Utilities at (434) 773-8300 instead of 9-1-1.

According to Hendrix, at least 10,000 customer are without power due to downed trees and high wind.

Power is expected to be restored some time between later tonight into tomorrow.

The Public Works rain gauge shows that Danville received 6.75 inches of rain in 90 minutes. The department has received about 200 emergency calls in the last 2 hours. All crews are being held over and are out responding to calls.

All streams have flash flooded. Roads are washed out in several places and at least two banks that have given way. Multiple streets are closed due to flooding and downed trees and power lines.
