Per Sergeant Eric Gripp of the Philadelphia Police Department, all six officers who were shot are being released from area hospitals. One will be admitted for injuries while working the incident sustained in a vehicle crash.
Philadelphia Police Commisioner Ross says the situation has been moved from a hostage situation, to a barricade situation.
Two officers and three prisoners were safely removed from the building.
The gunman is still in the building at this time, not cooperating. Commisioner Ross stated they believed that when they were able to speak to him on the phone, it was likely his attorney as well on a three-way call.
Six Philadelphia police officers were shot in Philadelphia’s Nicetown-Tioga section and rushed to hospitals Wednesday afternoon. A seventh officer was hurt in a crash responding to the scene.
The officers were taken to hospitals, where dozens of officers have surrounded the buildings. The injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening, with all victims listed in "stable" condition.
Police say two more officers who were trapped on the second floor of the home have been safely rescued by SWAT, while the apparent gunman remains on the first floor, still firing a gun. Negotiations are underway with the shooter, believed to be a male, according to police.
The shooter has been live-streaming the activity.
A CBS Philly helicopter was over the scene where police could be seen taking a man into custody. It’s not clear what the man’s role was in the incident.
Police say the shooting happened on the 3700 block of North 15th Street.
Police were first called to the house because of reported narcotics activity, according to Philadelphia Police Capt. Sekou Kinebrew. They were in the rear of the house in a kitchen area when the suspect started shooting.
Sources tell CBS Philly the scene is sheer chaos as officers were taking fire.
The scene of the shooting is right down the street from Temple University Hospital.
There is a large police presence and citizens are advised to avoid the area. Several blocks around the scene have been cordoned off. Most of North Philadelphia is in gridlock due to the police presence.
Temple University says a lockdown is in effect for the Health Sciences Center Campus due to the police presence.
