Lynchburg Regional Airport expecting more travelers for Thanksgiving

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) It may seem empty now, but the Lynchburg Regional Airport is expecting a crowd next week.

"There's gonna be a lot of travel, that's normal for the airport industry," says Lynchburg Regional Airport Deputy Director, Rick Stein.

Between college students flying home and residents traveling to be with family, airport officials expect the number of passengers to rise.

"The heaviest traffic days are always the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after. Although the Wednesday before is the single heaviest day of the year," according to Stein.

While the airport only provides non-stop flights to Charlotte, it's still a viable option. This airport won't be as busy as many international airports, but Stein says travelers should still be prepared.

"Allow yourself more time to get where you're going. Just because Lynchburg may not be crowded on those day, certainly the other airports that you fly in an out of those days will be crowded," Stein said.
