ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) -- People in Roanoke are coming together to help support a young boy recovering from a dog attack last month.
According to family friend, Jason Lane, 4-year-old Jackson Lam has come out of his medically induced coma. Lane was attacked by a dog last month while at a family friend's house with his father.
Lane said Jackson has had several surgeries and is scheduled for several more. Many of the injuries were on his face.
"He's got a tough road a head of him and we're trying to get his mind off of what happened and move forward in his young childhood life," he said.
Family friends are planning a Jackson Strong Benefit and Fundraiser to help him get through it. That event is June 15 and will feature live music, a corn hole tournament and gun raffle. Lane said people are already asking to buy Jackson Strong t-shirts. Another organizer is planning a fishing tournament fundraiser for June 22.
Jackson is turning 5 years old later this month. Lane said his mom asked if people could send him birthday cards in the mail to cheer him up. Cards can be sent to:
