ROANOKE CO., Va. (WDBJ7) - The After Prom Grand Finale Event is one of 200 finalists for a State Farm Grant.
YOVASO, or Youth of Virginia Speak Out, is a group working to keep teens safe behind the wheel.
The after-prom event is in its 31st year, and relies heavily on donations and grants.
The YOVASO Advisory Board sponsors the After Prom Grand Finale Event as an extra incentive for students to participate in the after prom party.
First Team also donates a car to one lucky winning student as another motivator to participate in after prom parties. Because First Team donates the car, 100% of the grant money would be put towards paying for the After Prom Grand Finale Event.
Now, as a finalist for a $25-thousand State Farm Neighborhood Assist grant, they’re asking for the community to vote!
“Think of your family members, think of your nieces, your nephews, your distant cousins… you’re keeping people safe, and you can keep others safe by helping,” said senior at Willliam Byrd High School, and member of YOVASO, Brianna Hodges.
Hodges won the car from First Team last school year.
More than 5,000 students from 40 high schools in the region participate in after-prom events across southwest Virginia, which ensures they stay safe that night. In total, they say more than 85,000 teens have been saved in the last 31 years.
You can vote online for the YOVASO Advisory Board to get the State Farm grant for the After Prom Grand Finale Event at VotePromParty.com.
Voting started August 14 and runs through August 23. Voters are allowed 10 votes at once per day.
If the YOVASO advisory board is chosen, they’ll receive the grant in October.
