ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) The Spirit of Roanoke is heading to Strasburg, Pennsylvania this fall.

The 611 steam engine that was built in the Norfolk and Western Shops will make a temporary move to the Strasburg Rail Road.

Special events are scheduled there on four weekends in September and October.

Peg McGuire is the Director of Communications for the iconic locomotive.

"It is a huge deal," McGuire told WDBJ7. "First of all, we are taking the locomotive out of Virginia and North Carolina for the first time since she's been restored in 2015. It opens up an entire new market for us to create new 611 fans, which is important for our future."

Close to $100,000 worth of tickets for the Pennsylvania events were sold on Friday alone.
