HENRY Co. Va, (WDBJ7) -- A 71-year-old Henry County man is facing a first-degree murder charge in relation to the death of his wife in January 2018.
After a 16-month investigation, the Henry County Sheriff's office has charged Thomas Richard Pequignot, 71, of Stuart with one charge of first-degree murder of Lorenne Hopkins-Pequignot.
On January 12, 2018, at 6:57 p.m., the Henry County Sheriff's Office began the investigation into the murder of Lorene Dalton Hopkins-Pequignot, 69, of Fieldale after they received a call from Mr. Pequignot who told dispatch his home had been broken into and he could not find his wife.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered Mrs. Hopkins-Pequignot dead at the scene.
Her body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the Western District of Virginia for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The medical examiner ruled that her cause of death be manual strangulation.
Thomas Richard Pequignot is currently being held at the Henry County jail with no bond.
