A farmers market just for kids in Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Some kids in Roanoke got to shop in the Kids Farmers Market Friday afternoon.

Feeding America Southwest Virginia teamed up with Member One Federal Credit Union to gather more than 30 kids. Students used play money to shop in a farmers market for fresh fruit and veggies.

The goal is to teach kids about financial literacy and making fresh healthy eating choices.

"So hopefully after having this scaled down experience, made just for them, they will take those skills that they learn in choosing their own produce, take it out into the real world and as they grow," Amanda Allen of Feeding America SW Virginia said.

Feeding America started the pilot program with the Community Youth Program in November. They are looking to expand and help other youth programs around the city.
