SALEM, Va. (WDBJ7) This weekend, the first Adam Ward Basketball Classic will tip off at Adam's alma mater, Salem High School.

Seven back-to-back games are on tap this Saturday, ensuring wall-to-wall action from morning until night, with the proceeds going to the Adam Ward Scholarship.

"He never wanted to be the center of attention, he always wanted to put the focus on everyone else, and to help others as much a possible. I think it'll be a day that he would be proud of, and one that will celebrate not only his life but his spirit. I think it's something that he certainly would have appreciated, being such a huge basketball fan. So we thought, what better way to honor Adam then by putting on a basketball tournament that could raise money and be sustainable, year in and year out," Adam Ward Basketball Classic Director Grant Smythers said.

The event gets underway bright and early at 9:30 a.m. with Roanoke Catholic and Carlisle. The Fleming girls and guys will follow and then Massanutten Military will take on Ridgeview Academy. The Salem and Floyd County girls then take over followed by the boys from Salem and Martinsville, the respective alma maters of Adam Ward and Alison Parker. Northside and Radford then butt heads in the nightcap.
