In Alleghany County, sheriff's deputies are taking an extra step to combat the opioid problem.

Every deputy in the county has been equipped with a packet including Naxolone, a nasal spray to combat opioid overdose.

"We've lost a few lives, you know, over the last couple of years andw e didn't have it," Sheriff Kevin Hall says. "And we're sitting here and thinking: we could have made a difference out here in someone's life and someone's family if we'd been carrying it."

Other nearby police and jail personnel have also received the kits and training.
