Sheriff's office: 17-year-old charged in connection to shooting in Madison Heights

The Amherst County Sheriff's office says the victim, a 51-year-old male, was being treated for a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

They said when deputies arrived at the scene on Longview Drive, they found the alleged shooter - a 17-year-old male.

Officials said the teen is in custody and charged with malicious wounding and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

They said the teen is being held at the Lynchburg Detention Center.

The Amherst County Sheriff's Office is investigating an early Thursday morning shooting in Madison Heights that left one suffering from gunshot wounds.

According to the Sheriff's deputy, authorities arrived at the 100 block of Longview Drive at 3 a.m. where they found a person suffering from gunshot wounds, the man has since been taken to the hospital.

The Amherst County Sheriff's deputy says they have one person in custody.

Investigators are still on scene.
