AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) - Amherst County is a step closer to naming a bridge for a state trooper killed in the line of duty.
Trooper Lucas Dowell was killed on February 4. He was from Chilhowie.
Shortly after Dowell's death Steve Martin, the owner of a local body shop, started a petition to name a bridge over US 29 in Amherst on South Main Street after Dowell.
According to Amherst County officials, Martin got the family's blessing and unanimous support from the Board of Supervisors Thursday night. That resolution is now headed to the Virginia Department of Transportation board for final approval.
The full resolution can be found in the document attached to this article.
