Amherst deputies will not face charges for shooting that resulted in murder suspect's death

According to the Amherst County Sheriff's Office, the medical examiner has ruled Anthony Hutchinson‘s death a suicide from self inflicted gunshot wound.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Virginia State Police say three Amherst County deputies acted appropriately when they shot and killed a man wanted for murder in August.

An investigation conducted by Virginia State Police and a prosecutor appointed to evaluate the case found that the deputies "reacted with appropriate force" when they fired shots at Anthony Hutchinson, 40, during an encounter along Route 29 August 12, according to a statement from the Amherst County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators believe Hutchinson killed his cousin, Alexia Lockett, in Nelson County before he was stopped by deputies in Amherst County hours later.

All three deputies involved in the August shooting were placed on administrative leave after the incident but have now returned to normal duties, the sheriff's office statement read.
