ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - A local non-profit has received a national award. Angels of Assisi in Roanoke was selected out of hundreds of organizations across the county to receive the Petco Foundation's Paul Jolly Compassion Award. It goes to organizations that make a lifesaving difference for animals and people in its community. The non-profit's Executive Director is going to San Diego, California next week to receive the award.
"It means an awful lot for the staff to be recognized for the hard work that they do. We're open seven days a week, we're doing veterinary care seven days a week, we're going out to areas sometimes until midnight trying to help animals and help the people that love them. And it's also a huge boost for our volunteers, who work equally as hard to make a difference in the lives of animals and for the people in our community."
There will be a live-streamed, awards ceremony watch party on November 14th at The Hotel Roanoke.
