Army Secretary visits VMI

LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ7) Army Secretary Mike Esper was at Virginia Military Insitute Thursday.

His visit to VMI is part of a tour of the nation's six senior military colleges, and included a visit to Virginia Tech last week.
He is also stopping by other colleges with ROTC programs.

"The important reason these days to have a great officer corps is not just to ensure readiness for today's conflicts, but the army is in the middle of a renaissance," Esper said as he prepared to return to Washington. "And we are improving everything we are doing from how we train and equip and man the force, to how we lead it."

His visits are to promote the recruitment and development of junior officers into the Army.
