Home State Article Ask Alexa about Virginia Lottery games and drawings By News Staff | Posted: Tue 5:30 PM, Dec 04, 2018 | Updated: Tue 6:33 PM, Dec 04, 2018 RICHMOND, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Virginia Lottery is one of the first lottery programs in the country to use Alexa, a virtual assistant that was developed by Amazon.
The lottery worked with COLAB to develop the "skill" to help an Alexa user who wants information about the Virginia Lottery.
This skill allows people to ask simple questions, like "Alexa, ask Virginia Lottery: What were the winning Cash 5 numbers?" or "Alexa, ask Virginia Lottery: What is the Powerball jackpot?"
"This is just the latest way in which the Virginia Lottery is using today's technology to meet customers where they live and shop today," said Virginia Lottery Executive Director Kevin Hall. "Along with our new smartphone app and the lottery's hugely popular touchscreen vending machines, Alexa helps us empower our players by providing quick, easy access to drawing results and other consumer information."
In the future, Alexa will also be able to provide users with the Virginia Problem Gambling Helpline number.
By August 2018, Adobe and the Consumer Technology Association says almost one in three American owned a voice-activated smart speaker system like Alexa, and up to half could own one after the holiday season this year.
