Special Olympians got to hang out with some collegiate athletes Tuesday on the Southside.
Averett University hosted about 100 Special Olympians from Danville, South Boston and Halifax County.
There were different sports stations set up, with Averett students helping at each one.
The Olympians say they love hanging out with college students.
"Everybody we meet is very nice and more than willing to help us out and they're having a positive impact on Special Olympics as we speak," says Special Olympics athlete, Lonnie New.
Averett hosted the event after earning a $500 grant for winning the NCAA Division III Special Olympics Spotlight Poll.
