Bedford Middle School students hear motivational words from NFL athlete

BEDFORD, Va. A professional football player who grew up in Lynchburg is back home and sharing wisdom with teens in Bedford.

Deshon Foxx spent part of his Thursday speaking to students at Bedford Middle School.

Foxx played football for Brookville High School and the University of Connecticut. He's now a wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks.

Administrators at Bedford Middle invited Foxx to visit as part of their "8 Mile" program.

"I just wanted to come here and speak to kids, and hopefully just give them a little advice," Foxx told WDBJ7. "Something that will motivate them to hit the books a little harder and keep their head in school."

"8 Mile" at Bedford Middle stands for "8th grade men in a learning environment." The program gives male students a chance to connect with positive role models and build character before moving on to high school.
