Bedford car shows raises money for law enforcement programs

BEDFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) Liberty High School was the place to be Saturday afternoon for car lovers.

The Bedford County Sheriff's Office hosted its 19th annual car show. About 100 people brought out their cars, new and old, to show off.

The event raised money for the county's anti-drugs and gang programs in middle and high schools.

Money goes toward buying materials for the programs, including books, pencils and other giveaways.

"The kids are our future and like I say this is good for the community where they can come out and meet the officers and so forth who protect and serve against them and so forth, so it's good around for everybody -- for adults and the kids," explained Captain Tim Hayden of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office.

Organizers say they hope to raise several thousand dollars through Saturday's car show.
