BEDFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) Money is being raised to buy new decorations for downtown Bedford that will honor the town's place in history.

Bedford Main Street is planning to purchase large banners that read "Bedford Remembers." They'll be placed on every lamppost in the downtown area for Memorial Day and the D-Day anniversary on June 6th.

Bedford leaders want to recognize the sacrifice made by town residents during the D-Day invasion and other military conflicts.

"As we approach the 75th anniversary of D-Day in 2019, we are getting to the point where we need to remember this component and part of our history that is so vital," said Bedford Main Street Executive Director, Sara Smith.

To raise money for the banners, Bedford Main Street is selling "Bedford Remembers" garden flags. They are $25 each.

You can buy one at the Bedford Main Street office and seven other locations in the town.
