BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Tuesday, May 14, the Blacksburg town council approved the rezoning of the Old Blacksburg Middle School property with a 7-0 vote.
"We are happy that we have come to agreement with the town,” Jim Cowan, one of the partners, said in a press release. “Our next goal is to get people in their Midtown businesses and homes and quickly as the market allows.”
Cowan said Midtown will begin accepting applications for homes and businesses very soon. There are already more than 70 households interested in purchasing or renting in the community. There's also a hotel that's interested which could be one of the first properties to go up.
According to the press release, there are several internal construction needs before buildings can be built, including grading, the installation of the complete stormwater system, and the preparation of building pads.
The Midtown Redevelopment Partners say they hope to break ground as soon as possible.
