Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford, Va (WDBJ7) The New River Valley is seeing job rates rise much higher than average this year.
Between May and June, the Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford area saw 1,100 new jobs. That's a 1.4 percent increase, and the highest growth rise in the state.
Montgomery County Economic Development said it usually sees a 2 percent increase every year.
Leaders attribute the success to the area's universities and hospitals.
Montgomery County Economic Development Director Brian Hamilton said, "Most of Montgomery County's growth has been in manufacturing, we've had a great resurgence in healthcare, of course Virginia Tech, and information technology jobs."
Hamilton said this growth could continue with upcoming construction plans throughout the county and the growing population.
