The rules have changed for vendors at the Blacksburg Farmers Market.

Earlier this month, the market officially became a "producers only" farmers market.

In the past, resale of some items in short supply, like perennial fruit and sweet corn, was allowed. But now, vendors can only sell items they produced themselves.

"Knowing that it's coming from the folks that are selling it to you, you know that it was picked probably 24 hours, 48 hours previous," said the market's director, Ian Littlejohn. "Being able to establish that relationship with the folks that are growing and supplying the food to our community is really kind of what we're trying to zero in on."

The farmers market is open on Wednesdays from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
