Blacksburg man dies after being pulled into rip current in North Carolina
A 68-year-old Blacksburg man was killed when he and his wife were pulled into a rip current in the Outer Banks of North Carolina on Saturday.
According to a news release from the Southern Shores, N.C. Police Department, emergency crews were called out to the beach between 1st and 2nd avenues for John Albright, 68, of Blacksburg, who was unresponsive after he was pulled out of the ocean.
Bystanders performed CPR on the man until first responders arrived, police said.
Witnesses told police the man and his wife appeared to have gotten caught in a rip current. Sgt. G.M. Farrow of the Southern Shores Police Department, said Albright's wife regained her footing, then went back into the water to rescue her husband, who was further out in the water, but was unable to pull him out. She was uninjured.
The Albrights owned a home in Southern Shore, according to the release.
