Blacksburg's Summer Solstice Fest rolls out sustainable cup policy

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) -- If you plan on enjoying the sunshine at the Summer Solstice Fest in Blacksburg this Saturday, you might want to know the drinks are going green this year.

There will be no plastic cups. Instead, you can buy a reusable cup to refill or bring your own lidless, 16-ounce stainless steel cup.

If you buy one at the event, you can use it for more discounts year-round.

"You might get a dollar off a milkshake somewhere or you might get a free soda or there will be lots of different deals that will start appearing on our website and our Facebook page throughout the year using these cups, just so we can really push that sustainable mode," said Laureen Blakemore, the director of Downtown Blacksburg, Inc.

Thanks to a new ordinance, you can also bring your dogs out to Saturday's festival celebrate the start of summer.
