BLUEFIELD, Va. (WDBJ7) -- UPDATE:
Virginia State Police say the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has joined the U.S. Marshals Service, by matching the reward amount of $5,000.00, making the total reward for information which leads to the arrest and apprehension of Donquale M. Gray to be $10,000.00.
Virginia State Police say the search for Donquale M. Gray is ongoing, utilizing tips and other information by state police and U.S. Marshals.
State Police say the U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest are Donquale M. Gray, 25, of Bluefield, W.Va.
Police say Gray is now wanted by the Virginia State Police for the attempted capital murder of a police officer.
The wounded police officer is still being treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Virginia State Police are still searching for Donquale M. Gray, 25, who they say shot a Bluefield, Va. police officer.
State Police say the incident began at approximately 11:45 p.m. Saturday when a Bluefield, Va. Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on a 2008 Toyota Yaris for an equipment violation. The Toyota, which had been traveling east on Route 460, pulled off to the shoulder near Exit 3 (which is within the town limits of Bluefield, Va.).
Seated inside the Toyota was an adult male driver and Gray, the front-seat passenger. During the course of the traffic stop, Gray began shooting at and wounded the Bluefield, Va. Police Officer as he was standing outside the vehicle on the driver's side.
State Police say Tthe Bluefield, Va. Officer and a second Bluefield, Va. Officer, who had responded to assist with the traffic stop, returned fire. The Toyota's driver got out of the vehicle and surrendered. Gray got into the driver's seat and drove off.
The Toyota was found abandoned a few hours later in Bluefield, W.Va.
The wounded police officer is being treated for serious, but non-life threatening, injuries at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, State Police say.
The driver of the vehicle was cited for a traffic violation and released. He was not injured in the shooting. Nor was the other Bluefield, Va. Police Officer at the scene.
Virginia State Police say the suspect's vehicle was located on the West Virginia side of Bluefield. His last known location was Augusta St. in Bluefield, West Virginia, and police believe he's now on the run.
A Bluefield, Virginia Police Officer was shot, and the search for the suspect is underway.
Virginia State Police issued a Law Enforcement Officer Alert on behalf of the Bluefield Police Department. This is effective as of 3 a.m. Sunday.
The Bluefield Police Department is looking for Donquale Maurice Gray, 25, of Bluefield, West Virginia.
He’s 6’1”, 185 lbs., and believed to be armed and dangerous.
Gray is known to drive a blue 2008 Toyota Yaris Hatchback with West Virginia plates reading 53U-974.
The officer who was shot is being treated at a nearby hospital at this time, no other information has been released about that officer yet.
