A Boutetourt County School is celebrating some national recognition.

Colonial Elementary was recently named a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School. The principal says six years ago, the school was warned with low math scores. Since then, she says they re-focused, and improved. Now, they're achieving higher than they ever have before.

Tammy Riggs, Colonial Elementary Principal, said, “I have a phenomenal teaching staff and they work hard every day. It's all about relationships with individual kiddos so they can figure out what each child needs.”

Colonial Elementary shares the recognition with only one other school in our region -- Harrington Waddell Elementary School in Lexington.
