Some young engineers from one hometown are headed to Washington DC.

Team Off The Grid is a KidWind team from Botetourt County. They build wind turbines and compete with teams from all over the world.

The American Wind Energy Association has asked them to speak about their team at its Capitol Hill rally Wednesday.

Off The Grid KidWind Team Member Thomas Laughridge said, "I'm going to speak about my favorite aspect which is the travel, there will be congressmen and CEOs."

Off The Grid KidWind Team Coach Wendy Grimshaw said, "For high schoolers to be able to put on their resume that their first speaking engagement was at a Capitol Hill rally speaking to these really very high power people in the industry in the whole energy sector, it's an incredible opportunity."

Last year the team placed sixth at the national competition.
