Botetourt emergency crews work together to handle wind damage and fires

BOTETOURT, Va. (WDBJ7) Botetourt County fire crews have worked around the clock since violent winds blew on Thursday night. They have answered calls regarding wind damage, brush fires, down trees, and have even checked in on the power transformer explosion.

All staff and volunteer departments work together to handle the load in the area. "Leadership works really well to make sure we aren't having teams work hour after hour," said Craig Bryant of the Buchanan Volunteer Fire Department. "It is exhausting, we want to make sure everyone gets a rest period and time to step away to recuperate."

Neighboring crews from Roanoke County, Rockbridge County, and Allegheny County helped the department contain the Purgatory Mountain brush fire. The Red Cross also gave food and water.
