Boys and Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia opens new club in Montgomery County
A new Boys and Girls Club has just opened up in Montgomery County!
The CEO of the organization, Michelle Davis, gave details on the new club Monday to Montgomery County community members at a luncheon. Carilion Clinic sponsored the lunch and discussion.
Davis announced that the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia received a 21st century grant in August, meaning they can now provide for at least three years of after school programming at Eastern Montgomery Elementary School. It all comes at no cost to the families.
"In the Eastern part of Montgomery County specifically, the need was becoming very apparent based on parents and teachers, who were asking for additional help and additional support. There were a lot of students who didn't have any place to go after school," Davis, CEO for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia, said.
The after-school program will host activities on academics, healthy lifestyles, and character-building.
