FOREST, Va. (WDBJ7) It's taking longer than expected to repair and reopen a bridge in Bedford County.
The Virginia Department of Transportation had to special order new beams for a bridge on Everett Road in Forest. The parts are in now and repair work started last week.
The bridge was shut down in April when engineers found deterioration. Work was supposed to be done in six to eight weeks, but VDOT now estimates the road will reopen by the end of August.
VDOT has plans to replace the bridge in 2021.
