BUENA VISTA, Va. (WDBJ7) The Buena Vista Police Department has a new recruit.
It's Blue, a nine-week-old bloodhound that they received at no cost from a breeder in North Carolina. Blue is just getting used to the police life right now, but will be sent off to train as a tracking dog when he gets older.
"Yeah, we're going to keep him in one of the officer's houses, one of our first canine handlers," Police Chief Keith Hartman explained. "He's going to do a little initial training with him to get him ready to go, and then in about three or four months we'll send him to professional training for tracking."
They expect Blue to be ready for duty in about six months.
