Buena Vista author recounts story of Camille

BUENA VISTA, Va. (WDBJ7) A Buena Vista author has written a history of the hurricane in the area.

Barry Staton wrote "Camille Fifty Years Later and Life Along the Maury River" to share his memories and the results of his research on what happened in 1969 in places like these in Buena Vista.

Staton was twelve when the flooding struck.

"Camille, it changed everything," Staton said. "I mean, you had factories start moving out, you had factories closing. I wrote in the book that I thought that Camille was the start of the demise for Buena Vista."

The Rockbridge Historical Society will also have a special event on Camille Sunday at Parry McCluer High School.
