ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7)-- Downtown Roanoke, Inc. has announced the 2019 Dickens of a Christmas parade, set for Friday night, has been canceled because of cold, icy weather.

DRI released the following statement:

“Due to the weather, tonight’s City of Roanoke Christmas Parade has been cancelled. Parades require a significant amount of advance logistical planning: permitting, street closures, participant and volunteer recruitment, and more. Because of this, we are not able to reschedule the parade.

"Dickens of a Christmas activities will go on as planned from 6pm – 10pm with a few adjustments. Photos with Santa will be inside Center in the Square Atrium. Tonight’s scheduled Fire Eater and Stilt Walking performers will be moved to Friday, December 20th.”

WZBJ 24 was set to broadcast the parade live at 6:30.

In Christiansburg, also because of weather, Christmas at the Market and the Christmas Parade, scheduled for Friday night, have been moved to the advertised rain date of December 16. All times will remain the same for those events.
