RUSTBURG, Va. Students in Campbell County are getting behind the wheel of some heavy equipment this summer.

Campbell County Public Schools is partnering with English Construction to host a two-week training program designed to get more young people interested in construction careers.

English Construction is suffering from "an aging workforce," according to Campbell County school leaders. The company believes training students now will help fill future positions within the company.

Rising seniors and recent graduates are taking part in the heavy equipment training. Participants will earn an "OSHA 10 card" (Safety Training) and how to properly use and maintain equipment like backhoes and bulldozers.

The training lasts four hours each day for two weeks. At the end of the training program English Construction will offer paid internships for the remainder of the summer to the some trainees. The program could lead to full-time employment for graduates.
