(WDBJ7) -- Virginia Peach season officially began on July 1, and the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says the state has an "excellent peach crop this year."

The department says this year's crop of peachers are "excellent, sweet, juicy and luscious with plenty to go around."

“We have an excellent peach crop this year with outstanding flavor," said Ricky Berrier of Berrier Farms in Cana Virginia. "It is hot and dry as the harvest begins, and that brings out the flavor in peaches. It was perfect timing this season.”

The following weeks are said to be prime packing, so make sure you grab one!
