Child dies in possible drowning in Martinsville

A 7-year-old child has died due to a possible drowning in Martinsville Friday evening.

The Martinsville/Henry County 911 Center received a call around 5:10 p.m. in regards to a possible drowning in the 100 block of Davis Road in Martinsville.

When crews arrived on scene, they found a child floating in the center of a pond. A Henry County deputy swam out and brought the child back to shore and performed CPR.

The child was taken by the rescue squad to SOVAH Health Martinsville, where the child was pronounced dead.

The cause of death is unknown at this time and an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Henry County Department of Public Safety, Fieldale-Collinsville Rescue and Martinsville Sheriff’s Office all assisted at the scene.
