Christiansburg Police team up to offer free rides for St. Patrick's Day

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) -- The Christiansburg Police Department is partnering with Help Save the Next Girl to offer free rides for St. Patrick's Day.

From 10 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday, trips made with Hooptie Ride within Christiansburg town limits will be free.

The service was offered for New Year's Eve as well. The town says there were zero DUI incidents that night.

"We really wanted to come up with a way to ensure that people can go to our local businesses and enjoy themselves, but have a way that we know that they can get back home safely," said public relations director Melissa Demmitt.

The free ride service was used ten times on New Year's Eve, Demmitt said.
