City of Lynchburg launches new mobile parking app

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Paid parking in Downtown Lynchburg just got easier thanks to a new mobile pay parking application named Passport Parking.

According to a release by the city of Lynchburg, the app is powered by Passport, a global leader of mobile payments for parking and transit.

Passport Parking will be available at over 400 off-street parking spaces in Downtown Lynchburg, including the Mid-Town Parking Deck, the Clay Street Parking Deck, Lot E (accesible via Commerce Street) and Lot S (SunTrust Parking Deck), the release mentions.

The pay-by-cell payment option showcases the City's continuing effortts to provide more options that make paying for parking an easy and convenient method for Lynchburg's downtown businesses and visitors.

According to the release, the Passport Parking app will provide drivers with the convenience of making payments from their smartphone, making paying easier and reducing the chances of receiving a parking ticket.

“Mobile payment is another option for City of Lynchburg to help make the parking experience stress-free and user friendly for our downtown businesses and visitors,” said Dave Malewitz, Parking Manager for the City of Lynchburg. “By integrating the pay-by-cell payment option into

our already existing paid parking areas, we are continuing efforts to expand on our parking management initiatives aimed at providing convenient, safe, and easy accessible public parking.”

Passport Parking is free to download through the App Store or Google Play. Users can also manage their parking at
