CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Democrat Leslie Cockburn conceded defeat to Republican Denver Riggleman, winner of the Fifth District race, during her watch party at Three Notch'd Brewery Tuesday night.

Cockburn was joined by her daughter, Olivia Wilde, to deliver her concession speech to her supporters after the results came in.

Cockburn congratulated Riggleman on his new role and wished him the best.

"I wish him well and I hope he can do something positive on Capitol Hill," said Cockburn during her speech.

Cockburn also reminded her supporters that they shouldn't be discouraged by the loss.

Her message to the community was to keep their blue wave going.

"We have built a community in the Fifth District. All of these counties have been knitted together. Spend some time in the rest of the Fifth if you haven't," she said. "There's a future for all of us as one unit so keep building."
