Communities in the Roanoke region to hold vigils for Orlando shooting victims

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Communities across the country are coming together to honor the victims from Sunday’s mass shooting in Orlando, Florida.

Police say 50 people were killed at a gay night club and dozens of others were injured.

The following vigils will be held across the Roanoke Valley:

The Metropolitan Church of the Blue Ridge will hold quiet prayer and support vigil with candles to light Sunday night from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. The church is located at 806 Jamison Ave. SE in Roanoke.

Members of the LGBT community will hold a candlelight vigil Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. on the steps of Monument Terrace in downtown Lynchburg. The vigil will be at the top of the steps, right outside the Unitarian Universalist Church. The site is best accessed from Court Street.

The LGBTQ community in Blacksburg will meet Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. for an informal candlelight vigil at April 16th memorial at Virginia Tech.
