Craig County couple has first baby born at Lewis Gale Medical Center in 2018
It's typical to kick off the new year off with a bang.
For the Fridleys that bang weighed 7 pounds and 9 ounces.
First time parents Rachel and Greg welcomed their baby boy, Benjamin Luke Fridley, just before 7 am on January 1st. Four days after his due date.
"I was having a few contractions on the 31st around lunch time, but it went away so we weren't too worried about it," said Rachel Fridley. "Then around 5 o'clock I started having a few more contractions and around 9 o'clock I was like okay we're ready to go, it's time to go to the hospital."
"They told us she was the only one in active labor when we came in and it was very likely that he was gonna be the first of the year," said Christina Bevins.
Something the family was very excited to learn.
"I didn't figure we'd be the first baby of the new year here, but I was definitely shocked when I found out," said Greg Fridley.
Adding to the list of firsts, Baby Ben is also Bevins first grandchild.
"I was bawling. I was just sobbing. Just so exciting. It's just an experience to see your baby having a baby," according to Bevins.
"It's wonderful, it kicks off the New Year, it's great," said Rachel.
