RADFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) Classes start Monday at Radford University, and there's one building crews are putting finishing touches on before officially welcoming back students.

Faculty and staff are now getting settled into the new College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences building.

At 143,600 square feet, it's the largest academic building now on campus.

The new space now houses a Forensic Lab, a television studio, and plenty of places for students to study.

"This building will allow me to re-investigate my course materials to create better assignments and better prepare our students for real jobs," said John Brummette, a Radford University associate professor in the School of Communication.

There is a mock courtroom with a goal of having real court hearings in the space, and an emergency management center that can also be used in actual events.

The nearly 53 million dollar project took about five years to plan and complete.
