Part of I-77S in Bland County remains closed after tractor trailer crash Wednesday

BLAND COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) - UPDATE:
The north left lane and south left lane are still closed.

As of 6:30 a.m., all southbound lanes are still closed. The north left lane is closed. Drivers can expect backups of one mile.

Part of I-77 in Bland County is closed after a big rig crash.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday, Virginia State Police responded to the crash just outside the East River Tunnel. A tractor-trailer being driven south on I-77 jackknifed as the driver was exiting the tunnel.

The driver was not hurt, but the trailer was damaged and is leaking its liquid contents. Bland County Emergency Management and the Virginia Department of Transportation are on scene for cleanup.

The northbound and southbound lanes of I-77 are closed until further notice. All northbound traffic is being diverted off at Exit 64.

The cause of the crash has not been determined.
