Tractor trailer crash cleared in Madison Heights, detours still in place

MADISON HEIGHTS, Va. (WDBJ7) UPDATE:

VDOT reports the tractor trailer wreck has been cleared, however a detour is still in place.

UPDATE:

According to VDOT, all southbound traffic on US 29 near Route 120 in Madison Heights are being detoured via VA 130 and US 29 Business S, before returning to US 29 S.

Emergency crews on scene of a tractor trailer accident near the Route 130 bridge and US 29 bypass in Madison Heights.

The tractor trailer was carrying 23 drums of propanol, a flammable chemical.

First responders say none of the propanol spilled onto the road, but they are working to move the tractor trailer out of the road.

Some gasoline did spill, but first responders say it has been cleaned up.

The driver of truck was taken to the hospital with significant but non-life threatening injuries after being trapped.

The accident occurred just before 1 a.m. Crews are expected to be on scene for several hours. According to VDOT, all southbound lanes are closed.

Drivers in the area will encounter detours and delays.
