UPDATE:
Virginia State Police are still investigating a fatal crash involving a vehicle and train in Bedford County.
Troopers say the crash happened around 7:15 p.m. on Riverside Circle, which is a private drive.
They say a 2012 freightliner tractor trailer was improperly parked on the Georgia Pacific plant property, across the tracks.
The driver, identified as Alberto Columbie, 39, of Daleville, was not in the truck when the train approached, but got into the cab to try and move the vehicle out of the way.
Columbie realized there wasn’t enough time to move the truck, and troopers say he jumped out as the train passed. The train hit the passenger side of the truck, and trapped Columbie underneath.
Troopers say Columbie died on the scene.
