Danville Area Humane Society recovers from flooding

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) - Many homes and businesses in Danville had damage from tropical storm Michael. Danville Area Humane Society was not excluded.

On Thursday, the shelter saw floodwaters inside much of the facility. Director Paulette Dean was surprised by how much water got in.

"We were just shocked when water started pouring in from the other side of the shelter and the adoption center was just flooded. Thank goodness we were still here - if we weren't we would have lost some dogs in Camp Bow Wow," said Paulette Dean, Director of Danville Area Humane Society.

All dogs and cats are safe and thanks to some dedicated volunteers, the shelter is flood-water free. Dean said the shelter is looking for donations of cat towers as several were damaged.

The storm did not affect the expansion of the humane society.
