Danville City Council tables discussion on White Mill Dam

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) UPDATE: The White Mill dam in Danville will stay.

Danville City Council voted to table the issue, and right now it's not scheduled to be brought back up.

Danville City Council is scheduled to vote on whether or not to keep the White Mill dam.

But some city council members say the vote might be delayed.

They say they don't want to rush the issue and there are some more options to consider.

In May, leaders held an public information session to look at three options.

They want to either put up more fencing, remove the dam completely, or create a step down stream so the drop off is not so big.

Another option on the table involves creating chutes or flow-throughs so you can kayak through but the dam still stays in tact.

Some say the dam is dangerous to boaters and swimmers.

Others say it's a part of history.

The council meeting starts Tuesday at 7 pm.

We will update this story.
