DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) The Danville Police Department has two new members of the force, and both have a strong sense of smell.

They are K9s of course.

Tina, the German Shepard, is trained in narcotics and tracking. Rooster, the bloodhound, is trained in tracking.

Both dogs are around a year old.

Lt. Michael Wallace says the department is lucky to have both dogs, and this is the first bloodhound the department has had.

"With tracking, these bloodhounds, I mean it's just, it seems like that's what they're made for. You can use them in a whole lot more various ways. A track can be older with a bloodhound and they'll stay on a track longer," says Wallace.

Rooster and Tina join German Shephard, Shark, who has been with the department since 2009.
