DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) Danville Police have announced that since cracking down on gang activity in the city, they have served 18 search warrants and made 10 gang-related arrests.
Guns, drugs, gang apparel and paraphernalia, and even hundreds of dollars have been seized since Nov. 4. Police say, it's a step in the right direction.
They've been able to gather intel from serving the search warrants. Six handguns, one replica firearm and ammunition have been seized. Multiple drugs including marijuana and crack cocaine have been taken as evidence. Stolen property has been returned to owners. And two children have been relocated through Social Services.
"All of that has an impact. It's difficult to say how much, but it has an impact and it does some disruption with the gang," Danville Police Lt. Michael Wallace said.
Police say with the start of the new gang task force, this is just the beginning. They hope to get even more illegal guns and drugs off the streets very soon.
As always, they ask that anyone with information about gang activity call them immediately.
